10 Rules for Mastering Goal Setting
What is your method for accomplishing your goals? Whether your goal is to write a book or start a corporation, you must have an established process or routine in place that you follow religiously to get the job done.
There was a time in my life that I felt so overwhelmed with the process of goal setting. I knew what I wanted to accomplish, but I did not know the steps to get to the finish line.
I would procrastinate and let self-sabotaging behavior take control because the journey to completion was just arduous.
I would begin a new project and quit half-way through the process. I became frustrated. The frustration caused me to over analyze the process or move on to something I deemed easier.
The reason that I was not successful in completing the projects was that I did not have a successful process in place.
Even when we get frustrated, we can accomplish our goals with a consistent routine. We may just need to take a small break and try to work on the goal another day.
When a routine is consistently followed, success will follow. Now that I have a process in place, I don’t get lost in the details of the project. I can follow a consistent routine that will manifest success.
Below are ten steps that I created to help me accomplish my goals.

Here are 10 Rules for Mastering Goal Setting:
1. Decide what you want to accomplish and write it down.
2. Visualize yourself accomplishing your goal.
3. Brainstorm your topic. Try doing a brain dump. A brain dump is a complete transfer of accessible knowledge about a subject from your brain to some other storage medium, such as paper or your computer’s hard drive.
4. Sort out your ideas from the brain dump, save them in a journal, a Microsoft Word document, or in the Notes app on your phone.
5. Research your topic. Are there any new findings regarding your topic? Take notes.
6. Decide what you want to do with your info. Are you going to write a book? Will you create a product or start a non-profit? Whatever you are going to do, write out a plan and make it clear and concise. Be flexible and leave room for changes. If you get frustrated, take a day off to relax.
7. Study the plan and complete the work.
8. Evaluate the process: Is there something about this process that you need to tweak?
9. Update, track, and document your process for the next go-around.
10. Celebrate your success!
